#National Kissing Day is on June 24th! This year, the organisers are once again asking you to name the most kissable celebs, so head over to their site if you’d like to have your say. Last year’s winners were the stunning Holly Willoughby and style icon David Beckham – we can’t disagree with those results!
National Kissing Day’s goal is to encourage all to “appreciate the importance of a kiss and to spread the love.” Of course, to take part you’ll want to have kissable lips!
Whether or not you’re planning on celebrating on the 24th of June, we all want to have kissable lips all year round! Here’s how to give your lips some TLC and pick out the perfect lipstick shade for you!
Looking after your lips
Having chapped lips is perhaps the most common beauty problem on the planet. Particularly during periods of harsh weather, lip balm is your best friend – you never leave the house without it. If you want to look after your lips with more than just lip balm, here are some tips:
Yes, you should exfoliate your lips, too! Use a lip scrub, or make your own out of sugar and honey or olive oil. Gently scrub your lips with it to remove dry skin. Alternatively, apply plenty of lip balm before a bath or shower. Leave for 10 minutes, then let the steam from your shower further soften your lips before giving them a gentle scrub with a flannel.
Use SPF lip balm. Your lips have some of the thinnest, most delicate skin out of anywhere on your body, but many of us don’t even bother to protect them from the sun!
Change your habits. This advice may seem weird, but avoid licking your lips when they feel dry. The extra saliva evaporates quickly and takes moisture from your lips with it! You should also drink plenty of water to keep your lips hydrated.
Finding the perfect lipstick for you
Now that your lips are in good shape, it’s time for the fun part – choosing a lipstick shade. Unfortunately, there’s no lipstick shade that works for everyone. You’ll want to narrow down your choices based on your skin colour, undertones, eye colour, and the occasion. Here are some examples:
If your skin has yellow undertones, opt for warm lip colours. If you have pink undertones, colours with blues and purples in work well.
If you’re stumped and want some lipstick for everyday use, look for a product that’s a couple of shades darker than your natural lip colour.
If you want your lips to look fuller, opt for shimmery lipsticks or glosses rather than traditional matte lipsticks.
Nude lipstick is versatile and easy to pull off! Red adds drama, so tone down your outfit and your eye makeup so the effect isn’t overwhelming. Berry shades are dark and gothic – pair with an airy, casual outfit for an intriguing contrast!
The golden rule: choose bold lips or eyes, not both.
