You’ve probably already planned your outfit (or outfits) for Valentine’s Day, but you’re not prepared for the big day just yet! The most romantic day of the year is no time for rushed or half-hearted makeup application – we all want to look perfect on Valentine’s Day, particularly if we’re going on a date with our crush or partner! Last year, we shared our tips for prepping for a big date and avoiding common cosmetics nightmares. If you’re undecided about how to wear makeup on Valentine’s Day and want some inspiration, we’re here to help! These five distinct makeup looks are all fantastic options for a Valentine’s Day date…
Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to break out your trusty-old red lippy again – and it’s on trend, too! Celebs such as Emma Stone, Emma Watson, and of course Taylor Swift have been bringing back classic red lipstick – not that it ever really went away. Pair it with equally timeless winged eyeliner, but avoid eyeshadow if you can help it.
Show your date that you don’t need to be heavily made up to look gorgeous by opting for a natural look on your Valentine’s Day date night. As always with this look, pay close attention to your skin and stick religiously to your skincare routine. Primer, foundation and concealer are the basic building blocks of the natural look, but you’ll want to apply a hint of blusher and mascara to complete it.
If you’ve wanted an excuse to vamp up your normal makeup routine, a Valentine’s Day date is the perfect occasion. If you’ve been paying attention to makeup trends, you probably have some reasonably new berry lipstick already in your makeup bag. Strong eyeliner or long, dramatic lashes might normally be key to the full-vamp look, but it’ll almost certainly be OTT for a Valentine’s Day date night. If you opt for a bold lip colour, keep your eye makeup to a minimum. Go for glam rather than gothic!
Sultry makeup often relies on two things: smoky eyes and well-chosen hints of deep colour. If you want to try out a sexy look for Valentine’s Day, stick to these rules! Practice your smoky eye, and consider trying out ombré eye – adding gold, deep red or violet to your look, depending on which suits your skin tone. Contouring is also key. If you haven’t already, buy foundation shades that are slightly lighter and slightly darker than your usual colour. Add highlight and shadow to emphasise your cheekbones and define your other features.
The playful, doll-like look is another fantastic option for Valentine’s Day. Opt for your favourite shade of pink lipstick or lip-gloss, and pair with eyeshadow of a contrasting colour – perhaps even with a hint of glitter. Blusher is essential for a playful look. Be careful – don’t overdo the playfulness. Aim for flirty, rather than Barbie-esque…
