The end of summer may be just around the corner, but given the vagaries of the British weather we might just enjoy another six weeks of summery sunshine before autumn begins to bite. Throughout the summer, we’ve been offering Beauty Talk Blog readers summer beauty advice, including a summer cosmetics survival guide and the season’s top beauty trends. In today’s edition of our blog, we’re going to take a look at some summer beauty advice offered by celebrities and their stylists. For many celebrities, it’s practically their job to look good. During the summer when your skin and hair is under constant onslaught from the elements, even celebrities need to change their beauty routines and cosmetics. Let’s take a look at some of the beauty techniques used by celebs – which of these are already a part of your summer beauty routine?
When the mercury starts to rise, it’s time to switch out your favourite cosmetics for their waterproof counterparts. We don’t just mean mascara – Selena Gomez’s makeup artist says that she uses a layer of matte eyeshadow below a bold, long-lasting eyeshadow in order to ensure the colour stays strong even in the most humid conditions. Alternatively, add eyeshadow primer into your routine, ensuring that your carefully applied eyeshadow stays in place during a long day at the beach or all the way through a night out.
Argan oil is great for both skin and hair. While some of us swear by using argan oil every day throughout the year, for others it’s an occasional luxury. Summer is certainly the season to try out argan oil, as it’s when your hair and skin are under the most significant stress from the elements. Many celebrities swear by the powers of argan oil for both skincare and haircare – Marion Cotillard, Eva Mendes and Kelly Rowland, to name but a few.
We all know that we need to apply sunscreen of at least SPF 15 before hitting the beach on a hot, sunny day. However, we’re exposed to UV radiation every day of the year – even when its cloudy. That means our skin needs protecting with SPF throughout the year – particularly in summer when there are more hours of daytime to enjoy. Use a moisturiser or foundation with SPF on your face, and apply SPF moisturiser or sun cream to any other exposed skin. Your lips shouldn’t be neglected either – protect them with lip balm with SPF, or a lip protection stick. Countless celebrities are advocates of everyday SPF, including Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and Elle Macpherson.
