This season’s fashion shows have brought plenty of new beauty trends. First off, centre partings were inescapable on the catwalk – only disappearing when stylists chose to employ the equally on-trend slicked back look that we’ve seen cropping up since the summer. Elsewhere, we saw the return of Woodstock waves – perfectly styled to create that seemingly effortless tousled look. To achieve this look, stock up on your favourite hairspray. Now might be the time to try out dry shampoo as a styling tool too, particularly if you want to try the slicked back, wet-look style. Finally, pick up a few hair accessories to nail the bohemian look.
This season’s shows featured rather muted cosmetics, but when makeup was used, the eyes were the centre of attention. Big brows are still very much en vogue, and now they’re joined by dramatic winged eyeliner and cat eyes. That means renewing your inventory of eyeliner and mascara. Brown eyeshadow is another must-have this season.
Away from these bold looks, we continued to see metallics on the runway. This season, gold looks set to dominate. Think gentle hints of warm gold to brighten the eyes, not dramatic heavy metallics across both your lids.
Another key look on the catwalk was small, bright flashes of neon colour on the upper eyelid. Some of the stylists created these incredible blocks of colour by using tiny pieces of brightly coloured leather – or lipstick!
While we’re on the subject of lips, we’re afraid to report that they were fairly muted on the catwalk at recent shows. Instead, most stylists chose to focus on the eyes or go for a natural look. There was one trend we spotted: red lips. Yes, they’re back! After last summer’s orange lippy trend and the autumn’s love affair with berry lips, we’re returning to classic Hollywood red.
Dewy, glowing skin isn’t so much of a trend as an eternal beauty goal. Improve your skincare routine this year by stocking up on SPF products and exfoliating regularly!
